As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been following along with the monthly tutorials about free motion quilting at the
2012 Free Motion Challenge on
SewCalGal. With time winding down on completing the tutorial for feathers, I thought I'd share what I did this month. First there was the drawing,
and drawing
and more drawing.
and finally working on fabric.
After numerous attempts here is the final result
I definitely need more practice.

Great work Renate, a great improvement from the black fabric to the gold fabric photos - I too have had an interesting time with my feathers; they do say that practise makes perfect and I hope that is true! have fun!
Keep the drawing up. It is hard to do someone else's design, and like raewyn said when you are practicing, low contrast can be very comforting!
Looking good - practice does make perfect, or at least better and better!
You continue to amaze me with the growth in your talent. Malcolm Gladwell pointed out in one of his books that it takes 10,000 hours to be proficient in a craft/career/interest. I'm dam sure you have that many hours in on your quilting and that is why it is so nice to see you continuing to challenge yourself.

Your feathers look great. I took a class where we drew first then stitched. Drawing is easier!
